1. Introduction
Reflexion (“the App”) is a personal journaling and reflection application created and operated by Michelle Han, an independent developer based in Roseville, California, USA. This Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and End-User License Agreement (“Agreement”) describe how Reflexion collects, protects, and uses personal information, as well as the rights and responsibilities of users. By downloading or using Reflexion, you agree to this Agreement. If you do not agree, please discontinue use.
2. Information We Collect
| Category | Data Collected | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Account Data | Email address; optional display name | Authentication and account recovery |
| Journal Entries | Text, audio, video, artwork, emotion tags, and timestamps | Stored securely for your journaling use only |
| Device Data | Device model and OS version (anonymous) | Debugging and app improvement |
No advertising identifiers, precise location data, or third-party tracking SDKs are used.
3. Data Storage and Encryption
All journal content is encrypted before leaving your device using AES-256-GCM symmetric encryption. The encryption key is generated locally and securely stored in your device’s Apple Keychain; it is never transmitted to the developer or Firebase. Data stored in Firebase Firestore and Storage is encrypted in transit and at rest under Google’s ISO 27001-certified infrastructure. Because Reflexion encrypts entries before upload, even the developer cannot access or read your journal content.
4. AI Processing
Reflexion includes optional AI-powered sentiment and mood detection using Apple’s Natural Language (NLTagger) framework. All AI analysis occurs entirely on-device. No journal data is transmitted to any external AI model or third-party provider. AI results are intended for personal insight only and are not diagnostic or medical in nature.
5. Authentication and Identity
Users may sign in using email/password or Google Sign-In via Firebase Authentication. Reflexion collects only your verified email and, in future versions, an optional display name. No payment or health identifiers are collected.
6. Data Deletion and Control
You may delete individual journal entries at any time. To permanently delete your account and all associated data, you may either use the in-app “Delete Account” feature or email info@reflexionjournals.com with the subject “Delete My Data.” Upon verification, your Firestore data and Firebase Authentication record will be permanently erased within 7 business days.
7. Data Retention
Encrypted journal data remains stored while your account is active. If you uninstall Reflexion but do not delete your account, encrypted entries remain available for your return. Data is permanently removed upon deletion requests.
8. Children’s Privacy
Reflexion is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Parents or guardians may request immediate deletion of such accounts via the contact email.
Before creating an account, users must confirm that they are at least 13 years old or have obtained verified parental consent. Reflexion may display an age confirmation checkbox during sign-up. Users under 13 may not use Reflexion without such consent, and any accounts found to violate this policy will be promptly deleted upon notice.
9. International Compliance
Reflexion complies with both the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Users may request access, correction, or deletion of their data at any time by contacting info@reflexionjournals.com.
10. Security Measures
- AES-256 client-side encryption with per-device Keychain storage
- TLS 1.2+ secure connections to Firebase
- Automatic key invalidation on logout or reset
- No plaintext journal content stored in any cloud database
Despite robust safeguards, no digital service can guarantee absolute security. Users are encouraged to maintain device security and current software updates.
11. Intellectual Property
All source code, visual design, and trademarks associated with Reflexion are owned by Michelle Han. Users retain ownership of their journal content but grant the developer a limited, revocable license to store encrypted data solely for app functionality.
12. Acceptable Use
Users agree not to upload illegal, abusive, or infringing material; reverse-engineer the app; or use Reflexion for spam, scraping, or resale. Violation may result in account suspension or termination.
13. Disclaimer
Reflexion is a journaling and emotional reflection tool designed for personal well-being. It is not a medical device or a substitute for therapy. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified healthcare provider or local emergency hotline.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Reflexion and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or emotional distress arising from app use. Total liability shall not exceed the amount paid (if any) for the app.
15. Governing Law
This Agreement is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, USA. Users outside the U.S. agree that jurisdiction shall rest exclusively in the courts of Sacramento County, California.
16. Updates
This policy may be updated periodically. The Effective Date above will reflect the latest revision. Substantial updates will be announced within the app or on this page: reflexionjournals.com/privacy.
